Overview
Pro Tier Access Required
This feature is only available in the Pro tier.
Define locations to create a hierarchical structure for organizing assets. This structure determines associated addresses, timezones, and data conversions. You can create new locations, customize their details, and assign role permissions to control access.
Location Management
Access Location Management
To organize assets by their physical placement, access the location management interface. Navigate to 'Manage' then 'Locations' to view existing locations.
View Location Hierarchy
Understand the current asset hierarchy by viewing the tree structure of defined locations. After accessing 'Manage locations', review the left panel to see the hierarchy, such as buildings, floors, and rooms.
Review Role Permissions
Understand which user roles have access to specific locations and their assets. Select a role from the list to display its associated location permissions on the left.
Create and Edit Locations
Create a New Location
Add a new physical area for asset placement by defining a new sub-location. Select the parent location, choose 'Add location below', and enter the new location name.
Add Location Address
Assign a physical address for accurate geographical context. Click the location, then select 'Location address' to enter or change address details. The system validates the entered address.
Set Location Timezone
Ensure asset data is correctly time-stamped and displayed in local time. When adding or editing a location address, the system automatically determines and displays the validated timezone based on the address.
Timezone Impact
The location's timezone, determined by its address, directly affects how all incoming asset data is displayed. Verify this setting.
Save Location Changes
Apply and store modifications to a location's details. After entering or modifying the address and confirming the timezone, select 'Save location address' to apply your changes.
Assign Permissions
Assign Role to Location
Choose the role on the right side. On the left side, you can now assign the desired permission for locations by using the local action menu.
Modify Inherited Permissions
Override default access settings for specific sub-locations. Select the sub-location, then disable inheritance for its address or permissions. This allows you to set new, specific access rules for that sub-location and any further sub-locations beneath it, unless they are also explicitly changed.
